Varanasi is a walking city with a traffic problem
The old city is a lattice of lanes, many of them barely wide enough for two people to pass. Cars stop well short of the ghats, which means parking somewhere convenient and walking the rest, often in heat, often carrying things.
A two-wheeler changes the shape of the day. You ride closer to where you're actually going, park in a fraction of the space, and move between Assi and Dashashwamedh in minutes rather than sitting in a queue of traffic on the main road. For anyone comfortable on a scooter, it's the most practical way to see the city on your own terms.
The price
₹599 a day, and that really is the number
Scooty hire in Varanasi usually arrives with a tail of extras: a deposit that shrinks on return, a cleaning charge, a late fee measured generously. We quote one number.
- ₹599 per day, GST included. The rate is the same on day one and day ten.
- Helmet included for the rider, at no extra charge.
- No deposit games. We hold your ID at handover and return it when the vehicle comes back.
- Fuel is yours, as with any self-drive hire. A day of city riding costs very little.
If something goes wrong mechanically through no fault of yours, call us and we'll swap the vehicle. You aren't charged for our maintenance.
What you need
Before we hand over the keys
Two things, both non-negotiable, and both for your protection as much as ours:
- A valid driving licence covering two-wheelers. Foreign visitors need an International Driving Permit alongside their home licence. Riding without one isn't legal, and it invalidates any cover if something happens.
- A helmet, worn. It's provided, it's required by law, and Varanasi police do enforce it.
We'll walk around the vehicle with you at handover and note anything already marked, so there's no disagreement about it later.
Honestly
When you should not rent a two-wheeler
We would rather lose the booking than have a guest injured, so:
- You haven't ridden in Indian traffic. Varanasi is a demanding place to start.
- You're travelling with children. Take the car.
- You want to be shown the city, not navigate it. A Sāthi is what you actually want.
- It's peak monsoon. The lanes flood and the stone underfoot turns slick.
None of that is us discouraging the booking. It's the same advice we'd give a friend arriving next week.
